How To Throw a Memorial Day Beach BBQ

Memorial Day is right around the corner! We can’t wait for a long weekend spent with family and friends. We’re also looking forward to all the fabulous parties and barbecues, especially ones on the beach! If you’re hosting a beach party for Memorial Day Weekend, here’s some tips to help you throw the best beach bash possible:

#1 – Pick Your Location Wisely

All beaches are good, but some are better for hosting barbecues than others. Pick a beach that will be easy to get to, and make sure fires, grilling, and any activities you’re wanting to do are allowed! It’ll also make your life easier if there are tables and trashcans nearby your party spot.

#2 – Keep Your Menu Simple

Less is more when you’re cooking on the beach! Stick to one or two entrée options that will travel well, like a pre-marinated Jamaican Jerk chicken that can be grilled over a fire:  we found a great recipe from Crème de La Crumb. If you’ll have kids at your party, bring a crowd pleaser like hot dogs! Grilled corn is an easy (and totally delicious) food you can make with very little prep, and no beach cookout would be complete without s’mores. If you’re worried about having enough food, make it a potluck!

#3 – Double Down on Drinks

Have a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for your guests. Don’t forget a cooler and lots of ice to keep everything cold!

#4 – Plan Ahead & Bring Some Fun!

Make sure you contact guests about dietary restrictions and stock up on plates, napkins, and silverware before you head out to the beach! You’ll also want to make sure you have grilling supplies like tongs, charcoal/wood, matches, etc. Also, don’t forget to bring beach basics like sunscreen and towels so you can help out any guests who leave theirs at home.

As fun as the beach is, it’s also a good idea to bring some games and activities along. We recommend bringing a volleyball, or a fun yard game like colorful DIY Jenga! If you want to make it for yourself, here’s a great tutorial from Don’t forget speakers for music!
