Life is feeling more relaxed, time has seemed to slow a bit and summer is on our side. All we need now is a good book!  Since we love spending time on the coast in summer, here are our beach friendly favorites. So no matter if you have a vacation planned or not, these reads will transport you to the coast in no time.

The Vactioners by Emma Straub

“Emma Straub’s bustling new novel is about a New York family’s two-week idyll in a house on the Spanish island of Mallorca. It’s also about a different kind of break: infidelity. . . . The story’s women are so well drawn that they seem instantly familiar. . . . Witty.” –Janet Maslin, The New York Times

Portion of the Sea by Christine Lemmon

Christine Lemmon sets the scene to her novels in Sanibel Island, FL (home to our FP store), where she lives with her family. Portion of the Sea is about how four women arrive  to an island at different times in history, each of them taking a fresh start, forcing them to make choices about life.

The Matchmaker by  Elin Hilderbrand

Forty-eight year old Dabney Kimball Beech from Nantucket has always had a gift for matchmaking. She has never gone wrong about a romance except in the case of herself and Clendenin Hughes, her first love. Now, after spending 27 years on the other side of the world, Clen is back on Nantucket, and Dabney has never felt so confused, or so alive.

On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves

So much more than a simple survivor story, On the Island takes two highly developed characters–both at turning points in their lives–and forces them into an endurance situation which will alter them both forever. Both characters were incredibly realistic.” – Jesi, Diary of a Bibliophile

Ten Beach Road by Wendy Wax

On the brink of ruin, three very different women discover themselves where they least expect it…at Ten Beach Road….But just as they begin to reinvent themselves and discover the power of friendship, their secrets threaten to tear down their trust, and destroy their lives a second time.

Summer Island by Kristin Hannah

“Few authors dare to truly analyze the complex natures of mother-daughter relationships. In her novel Summer Island, author Kristin Hannah perfectly captures the bittersweet, inspiring, disappointing, tragic, and human aspects of such a relationship. Set in the tranquil, present-day San Juan Islands, Summer Island presents itself as a deep investigation of the ramifications of a mother’s abandonment of her two daughters. Unlike many similar novels, this one delivers the goods.” –

Maine by J. Sullivan Courtney

“Like Elizabeth Strout’s conflicted junior high teacher, Olive Kitteridge, [the Kellehers] are appealing partly because of their oh-so-human shortcomings…I enjoyed every page of this ruthless and tender novel about the way love can sometimes redeem even the most contentious families. Like all first-rate comic fiction, Maine uses humor to examine the truths of the heart, in New England and far beyond.” –The Washington Post
