1. Get Outside
You’ve surely heard the phrase “a bit of fresh air would do you some good!” and it’s true! Whether you relax on your porch watching the clouds go by, go for a walk around the neighborhood or at your local park or garden in your yard, being outside will help you relax.
Whatever gets you giggling…do that! Rent a funny movie and watch it with a friend, read a hilarious book you haven’t picked up in a while or call a friend and exchange funny stories…anything that makes you laugh will help reduce tension and put life into perspective.
3. Take a Bath
It’s important to indulge every once in a while! Warm water helps relax your muscles, so put on some music, light the candles, close your eyes and focus on the positive things about your day or imagine the beach while you concentrate on your breathing.
4. Have a Relaxation Room
The bedroom is the perfect place to relax in your home…turn off the TV, put the dog on the floor, put down your cell phone and light a candle. Avoid looking at bright screens an hour before hitting the sack; doing so is said to help you get to sleep faster and sleep harder. Instead, read a magazine or a book to help distract your mind and prepare it for sleep.
5. Drink green tea
Enjoy a cup of green tea while you sit outside or when you wake up in the morning. It contains an amino acid that helps stimulate the brain to relax…perfect to put an end to a stressful day.
6. Write it Out
Writing helps release everything you keep stored up in your brain. Make a list of all you did today or all you need to do tomorrow, clear your mind by writing about all of the day’s frustrations or write a short story or poem to get your creative juices flowing. Knowing you’ve written it all down will help keep you from worrying.
7. Time To Yourself
Even if it’s only 5 or 10 minutes, save some time in the day for you. Enjoy quiet time on a short walk or wake up earlier than everyone else and soak up time for you before starting your day.
