Warm. Cool. Complementary. Contrasting. There are so many words to describe colors and color combinations. But really, who needs words when we have our own internal barometer: our visceral reactions to color. A bright top can lighten a bad mood, white pants signal the start of summer, and can anyone question the power of a little black – or red – dress?
Nothing excites us more than a change of season – which signifies a change in the color palette with our own styles. This fall, we’re especially enamored with the way the colors layer together. Citron and Pear work perfectly with earthy Moss for a tonal look, but they’re equally beautiful – and punchy – when paired with our deeply saturated and perfectly autumnal Currant. Misty Blue and Peri, a perennial favorite, are cooly compatible with Twilight, a dark grey.
And when holiday rolls around, try an icy-pastel, like Aqua Pearl, which looks new and fresh when paired with everything from black, navy, brown and twilight. Of course, winter pastels also work in tonal combinations within colors of the same family.
The possibilities are endless and there really is no right or wrong way to use color to layer. Instead of a white tank – which seems to work so well with everything – try an intense pop like Red Coral – or go in the opposite direction and flip flop the outfit, with a dark tank and lighter piece on top.
