Dance Your Way Through May

We have dancing on the mind for the month of May. And when we think about dancing, we have a chain thought reaction: dancing…fun dancing dresses…color…colorful patterns…inspiration for patterns…the beach…well, you get the picture. Most of the time, our thoughts end up back at the beach! We are Fresh Produce, after all.

What do you think of when you think about May? Anticipation? The summer is coming, which brings longer days & warmer nights, bright colors and (oh, yeah…) summer vacation! Let the countdown begin.

We think our new, fun Calypso print best exemplifies all that May is about. The bright, warm hues of pink, orange, yellow and green in Calypso bring a feeling of happiness in each color it comes in. Here’s a sample of Calypso in white:

Inspired by the beat of island music and the bright colors found all over the Caribbean Islands, Calypso makes us want to dance!

We don’t think this is a coincidence, since Calypso is also a type of music. Described as the music indigenous to the West-Caribbean people, Calypso was brought to the island of Trinidad from African and European roots. The music grew popular when Carnival was brought to Trinidad; there were many Calypso competitions at the festival. If you’ve heard musicians playing steel pans (or steel drums), you have most likely heard Calypso music.

1912 is said to be the official birth of Calypso music. Famous Calypso-style songs include the song “Rum and Coca-Cola,” originally by Lord Invader but redone in 1944 by the Andrews Sisters and the “Banana Boat Song,” a traditional Jamaican folk song redone by Harry Belafonte.

Tops To Flatter

We often hear customers proclaim, “Fresh Produce has something for everyone!” but we want to prove it to you!

Finding the perfect-fitting top is sometimes difficult. “It looked so great on the hanger, but it just doesn’t look right on me!” is a common frustration overheard at dressing rooms.

Knowing yourself and what types of clothes look best on YOU is a huge advantage when trying on clothes or buying them online. We have some tips prepared for different types of women. (And we LOVE the fact that everyone is different!)

If you have a…

Small Bust: Women with smaller busts should look for tops and dresses with details around the neckline like ruffles, cowlnecks or beading. You should also look for clothes with an empire waist; clothes that are fitted at the waist can make busts appear smaller. The perfect FP choice for you?

The Ruffle V-Neck T is available in three prints (Fiji, Happyness and Tunisia) and 22 solids! The v-shape with ruffle detail helps embellish the neckline, drawing attention to the details. Scoop necks are also great for women with smaller busts.

Large Bust: Women with larger busts look wonderful in cardigans, v-necks with tanks underneath and wrap dresses. One of many options from FP that will help keep you covered without overheating you this summer:

The Key West Vest is a must-have this season for women with larger busts. It will give more coverage over a dress and help add contrast when paired with other colors. The length of the vest allows it to pair well with long tops and dresses and its flowing fit will help you drift through those long, warm days!

Long Torso: Whether you have long or short legs, there are a few things to keep in mind to flatter the length of your torso. Wear a belt at your waist whenever possible and roll up, cuff or wear ¾ sleeves that meet at your middle when your arms are at your side to help break up your torso and accentuate your waist.

The Classic Stripe Buttonside Henley is extremely flattering on long torsos because of the sleeve length and the horizontal stripes. Take advantage of looking great in stripes!

Short Torso: Contrary to what many think, longer tops are flattering on women with short torsos. Pair a longer top with fitted pants or leggings for a great combo. Tunics fitted at the hips and dresses with empire waists are also good options over something that fits at your waist. Long scarves are perfect for short torsos, too, and they can be paired with nearly every outfit to help give a vertical dimension. Our FP choice for you:

The Voile Tunic, available in three prints, is great for summer. The adjustable drawstrings let you decide how you want the neckline to fit, but any v-neck, scoop or square-neck top looks great on short torsos because they add a vertical element, helping to elongate you.

If you’ve had the chance to go into any retail store recently, you’ve probably noticed that bright colors are extremely popular right now.

This is great news here at Fresh Produce because we’re color professionals! Our colorful pieces can be paired with neutrals or other colors to create looks for different occasions.

Just in case you need some convincing, here are our top 5 reasons to wear color:

1.  It Brightens Your Spirits

Even if it’s dreary where you are, wearing colors will help brighten your mood and keep you feeling fresh. (Just think about those times during the winter when you feel like you could go into hibernation…color can help with that!)

2.  Colorful Pieces Are Popular

Most celebrities are wearing colors on top of more colors now, and colorful pieces are all over the runway, but this doesn’t mean color is a fad. You should always make room in your wardrobe for colorful pieces!

Although black is classic and white is crisp, the two paired together can often be extreme and too harsh. Try pairing a brightly colored cardigan and shoes with a neutral outfit. Other colors help bring out the best of black and white.

Pinspiration: It’s Time To Bloom

We didn’t wait around for May flowers this year…it’s already spring so we should celebrate flowers now! Several of our prints here at Fresh Produce were inspired by flowers.  (And is it hard to see why? The bright colors and fresh feel that flowers provide should be brought into every wardrobe!)

Here are our favorite flower-filled prints now paired with some blooming inspiration from Pinterest.

Our Summertime print is a playful print inspired by spring blooms. If you love flowers, you’ll love this print!

 

We adore this bright, fun tulip wreath available on Etsy.com. The seller has made them in different colors and we think it’s the perfect addition to a front door for spring and Mother’s Day!

 

The Breezy Flower print is reminiscent of its name…flowers blowing in the wind on a spring day! Wearing the print evokes the feeling of being around flowers (without the allergies).  We love that it’s available in pastel and bright colors, too.

Speaking of bright colors, this backyard porch and garden is absolutely stunning. The lush green, wildflowers and colorful chair cushions make this yard a place we would love to spend a spring afternoon!

The Fresh Produce Happyness print is certainly the most colorful of our floral prints. The colors and flowers are just perfect for spring.

The centerpieces look amazing on this tablescape. The contrast between the modern look of the stripes and the softness of the pink, white and red flowers create a one-of-a-kind look!

Reasons We Love Tank Tops

1. Layering

Tanks are the perfect layering pieces. They go great under shirts that may be a bit too see-thru or low-cut and they can be layered over other tanks. Layering offers different color styling options: you can layer two neutral tanks, one neutral under a bright tank or two bright tanks for completely different effects.

2. Versatility

With layering comes versatility. A tank can be worn with almost any bottom or under almost every top. Mix and match your colors and the possibilities are endless! You Decided: Spring Green is Favorite

We recently asked Fresh Produce Facebook fans to choose their favorite of our three new colors. And the winner is (drum roll please)…SPRING GREEN! Maybe it’s the boldness of the green that reminds fans of fresh green grass or how easy it is for everyone to look great in such a bright color.

The three new colors (cosmos, eggplant and spring green) have been extremely popular since their unveiling a couple of weeks ago. Many have already sold out in our new prints in stores and online.

We know you’re anxious to get products in these new colors. The new prints in the new colors are expected to be back in stores next month, but in the meantime we’ve brought you four products that are available in all three of the brand new colors.

Our Tank in Breezy Flower will be great to beat the summer heat either layered with other tanks or paired with a cardigan. It is now available in 16 colors, including our three new colors. This is one of the only prints left in spring green, cosmos and eggplant!

 

The Mandarin Collar Tunic looks great with jeans or leggings or you could pair it with a belt and boots to dress it up. Its ¾ sleeves can be rolled up or down for versatility, but it’s still 100% cotton to ensure you stay cool in the heat. You can order this tunic now in 20 different colors.
